Sub-Regional Bid For A New DECENT - WARM - HEALTHY HOMES PROJECT 2009-11 Has Been Successful And A Provisional Allocation Of 4.3 Million Has Been Agreed posted by Your Name
Sub-Regional Bid For A New DECENT - WARM - HEALTHY HOMES PROJECT 2009-11 Has Been Successful And A Provisional Allocation Of 4.3 Million Has Been Agreed
Details of the proposed bid can be summarised as follows:
The Sub Region Local Authorities (SRLA's), in partnership with other agencies are already dedicated to addressing home improvements and energy efficiency programmes. This new project has been set up to provide a platform to promote and champion all existing programmes.
The professional remit of the SRLA's, will remain focused on decent homes, and carbon reduction, but most importantly the SRLA’s will integrate their services under a wider common agenda of providing healthy homes.
It is proposed that within target areas, an Assessment Team will carry out property-by-property assessments.
Some households will be in a position to address their own needs and in this case the Assessor will signpost the household to any other service that can provide advice. A 'Healthy Home Prescription' will be left with the household prescribing what they can do next to gain where relevant, further advice and assistance.
There will, however, be households that require greater support from other services, this may be in the form of grants, loans or more in-depth advice. In this case the Assessor will leave the household with a more detailed 'Healthy Home Prescription, prescribing the next agreed steps, which will be taken to remedy the works required.
In order to streamline the more in-depth support, a new Healthy Home Interest - free loan is being made available by each SRLA.
Links are already in place with the sub region's Home Improvement Agency and services prescribed can also include Home and Fire Safety Assessments, Handyman Services and an Assess & Fit Service, where minor adaptations can be installed on a client’s request.
A project fact sheet, and low energy light bulbs will be left with the household as an immediate assistance.
A free phone number will be shared by all the SRLAs and a dedicated web site, www.TGSR - HealthyHomes.com, will be set up and detailed on all marketing materials.
Climate Energy Ltd will collate the assessment work, and details as appropriate will be passed to other project partners to provide measures and benefits to the householder, to include:-
Healthy Homes financial assistance package
Benefit/Entitlement Entitlement Check.
Insulation and Heating measures.
Discount packages for "Able to Pay" customers will also be available.
Thurrock Energy Partnership Launches A New Service With Thurrock Libraries 2008-09 posted by Your Name
Thurrock Energy Partnership Launches A New Service With Thurrock Libraries 2008-09
A new working partnership has recently been set up with Thurrocks Library Service. The Local libraries run a unique Wiser for IT scheme for the over 50s, to learn about computers. At the sessions, energy efficiency has now become one of the teaching modules and residents attending are encouraged as part of their learning, to seek out key energy web links including www.thurrockenergy.com and are tasked with finding out what PowerDown devices are.
At the end of the course all attendees complete an energy survey, receive a free energy information pack and a Power Down device for them to use, when practicing on their own computers at home.
The Wiser for IT scheme is a great way for over 50s to get up to speed with new technology. 9 out of 10 libraries run the courses and it was considered an ideal route to raise awareness about energy efficiency - while learning at the same time!
Thurrocks Wiser for IT Course is run over 5 weeks/ 2hr sessions/ 5 modules and trains approx. 50 persons during this time.
The module on energy was set up in February 2008 and so far 80 residents have been trained, with 10 more in the final stages of their course. 80 Power Downs have been distributed, saving 60 kilograms of carbon dioxide over every year. There are already 70 more people registered for the programme over the coming months, and if projected over the remainder of the year this will lead to a significant carbon saving.
Following the success of this project, work is now progressing with other groups being led by the libraries service i.e. 'RHYME TIMES' group where parents and children meet weekly, energy information packs and Power Downs will again be circulated.
